Method

  • Download the Minecraft Almere Pampus Challenge (.mcworld file) on the overview page and open it in Minecraft Education.
  • Walk to the food department in the Green Innovation Hub.
  • Get inspiration.
  • Start building by talking to Xander de B.
  • Build your idea/vision for food.
  • Save your Minecraft world on your Windows, Mac, Chromebook, Android and iPhone/iPad.
  • Open your certificate and upload your world file with a pitch (short explanation).

Easy (8 – 12 year)

Food security background

More and more people are coming to live in the Netherlands. All these people must also be able to eat. This is called ‘food security’. 60,000 people will soon live and work in the new Pampus district. They must all be able to eat. But where does that food come from? Can this be done more sustainably and in a way that is good for the environment?

Four paths to food security:

According to the Green Innovation Hub, there are four ways to ensure food security:

  • Good food is fresh and must be made nearby.
  • Food preferably comes straight from the field to your plate. There should be as few steps in between as possible.
  • There must also be less waste and waste must be processed smartly.
  • More people need to know what healthy eating is.

We also live increasingly digitally. Food security must also be able to be arranged digitally. Food security can be better regulated with smart technology.

Activities

  • Learn how to ensure food security for a district.
  • Make a plan about how you will ensure food security in the district of the future.
  • Build your plan to provide food sustainably.
  • Send us your plans and have a chance to win unique prizes.

 

Conditions

When building your idea, pay attention to the following things:

  • Many people have to live there. How will food reach the home in the future?
  • Food has to be bought somewhere. How will that work in the future?
  • Technology continues to develop. What technology will be used in the future?
  • Healthy food is important. How do you ensure that everyone eats healthy?
  • Food must be transported. How will that happen in the future?
  • The district must also be beautiful in the future. How do you ensure that the district will look good in the future?
  • Nature and climate are important. How do you ensure that food security can be sustainable?

Average (12 – 16 year)

Food security background

More and more people are coming to live in the Netherlands. 60,000 people will soon live in the new Pampus district. There must be food for all these people. But where does that food come from? Can this be done in a way that is sustainable and good for the environment?

Food security can be ensured in various ways. By making food locally through agriculture, food can quickly get from the farmer to your plate. The way food is transported can be more convenient and sustainable. The waste that is thrown away can be reduced and waste can be dealt with more intelligently. And educating people about sustainable eating can contribute to a healthier life.

When building your idea, pay attention to the following things and include your idea in the pitch you give when uploading your world:

  • More than 60,000 people will live and work in the new district. How do you provide enough food for these people?
  • How will residents get their food in the future?
  • What future ways of making food can be used?
  • Healthy eating is important. How can you help people eat healthier through apps or other digital ways?
  • Food has to come from somewhere. How do you ensure that food does not have to be transported for a long time?
  • The district must also be beautiful in the future. How do you ensure food security without making the city less beautiful?
  • Nature and climate are important. How do you ensure that food security can be sustainable?

Hard (17+ year)

But where does that food come from? Can this be done more sustainably and in a way that is good for the environment?

Food security can be ensured in various ways. By keeping food production such as agriculture regional, the chains between the farmer and your plate can be reduced. The way food is transported can be more efficient and sustainable. The waste that is thrown away can be reduced and waste can be dealt with more intelligently. And education on healthy and sustainable eating for the population can contribute to improved food security.

  • The district must also be beautiful in the future. How do you ensure food security without reducing the aesthetics of the district?
  • Nature and climate are important. How do you ensure that food security can be sustainable?
