Stijn Sprenkels, an expert in tech and innovation, is one of the representatives within Wonderbit. This company excels in uniting the online and offline worlds through smart technology in a rapidly changing digital landscape.
After his early involvement in the development of innovative speech recognition software at Philips Business Communications, Stijn spent more than a decade at a renowned consulting firm. In this role, he supports governments in the implementation of various IT solutions, including telephony systems and mobile apps.
His interest in technology and his ability to build bridges between engineers and end users brought him to Wonderbit, a company founded in 2022 by his former fellow student Wouter ten Brink and current colleague Bogdan Vasilache. Wonderbit, based in Almere, focuses on complex digital projects ranging from collaborations with NATO, where they bring technology and innovation to military contexts, to developing encrypted video calling solutions for the tax authorities. They are also committed to local community projects, such as educational games for youth in collaboration with libraries in Almere.
Wonderbit on the world stage
Wonderbit’s involvement in the Almere community is now well established. They are closely associated with the Green Innovation Hub (GIH) and recently participated in the GIH contest, actively supporting the growth of the city. They do this by emphasizing the digitization of agriculture and urban agriculture, which is an excellent fit for Almere’s position. Moreover, they are committed to collaboration with local stakeholders, such as Social Farmer, with the goal of promoting efficiency of short food chains. Think reduction of food miles, more local and organic food for a wider audience and less food waste.
Wonderbit reaches beyond national borders, however. This coming month, they will participate in the Smart City Expo in Barcelona, the world’s largest urban development exhibition. Wonderbit’s role is to explore collaboration with international urban agriculture and food distribution initiatives. Within this event, they are representing Almere as part of a broad Dutch delegation that includes other Almere stakeholders such as the Green Innovation Hub, the Municipality of Almere, UpAlmere, Budget2Pay and COTIT.
An alliance for social growth and technology
All in all, Stijn’s involvement in the Almere community goes beyond his role as a resident; he is also actively involved in the start-up and scale-up ecosystem of UpAlmere from Wonderbit. In addition, Wonderbit regularly organizes Tech & Digital Meet-ups at vibrant locations across the city, where tech enthusiasts can share knowledge and network. Wonderbit’s dedication to a larger social cause is undeniable, and their commitment to digital innovation and community growth continues to have an impact both locally and nationally.
